History
History of Amsterdam begins in 13th century when the town was founded as a fishing village on the banks of the river Amstel. Amsterdam was performing as a world business center throughout its whole history and it was famous for its stock exchange. The ships exported goods from its port to India and America, and imported luxurious articles, spices and substances. Amsterdam was the most important port in Europe and the significant financial center of the world. However, the city had to deal with various trade declines and recover after many hostile arrival. But in spite of it all, many landmarks have been remained. They have created an impressive atmosphere and made Amsterdam one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Transport
Bicycle is the main and also the fastest vehicle in Amsterdam. There is also a public transport that is providing by buses, trams and metro. The metro is better to use for longer distances, e.g. from the center to the outskirts. Driving your own car is not recommended, because there are usually a lot of traffic jams and a parking is not very cheap.

Dam Square is the center of Amsterdam where the stock exchange, municipal office and the Court (Royal Palace), New Church (Nieuwe Kerk) and the National Memorial built after the Second World War in memory of its victims are situated.
