The sovereign Jaime I. incorporated this area in your Catalan Kingdom. During the 15th and 16 century increased the economic power of the city and began development of art. This period is known as the Golden Age of Valencia. The city obtained autonomous status in 1982. Location on the bank of the river Turia brought negative effects to the city too, because it had to face the frequent floods. This fact has led the inhabitants to modify the river bed and drained away the water to somewhere else. Rich, all the time changing history and care about its heritage contributed to the transformation of the city into one of the most dominant Spanish cities. At the same time,Valencia has became one of the major cultural and financial center in Europe.
